This agency offers two programs centering on supporting families. Each program uses a combination of information and assistance, respite, case management, support groups, and access to supportive counseling around the issues of caregiving and other community services to extend the family’s ability to keep their family member at home for a longer time. The Elder Caregiving Program provides services supporting caregivers as they care for their older spouses, parents, and friends. The respite portion of this program is available in all 14 counties of the diocese. An emergency respite on-call pager is also available to all hospitals, adult protective agencies and office for the aging agencies in all 14 counties. This program offers support groups as well and individual supportive counseling around issues of caregiving. The agency’s second program is its Kinship Caregiving Program operating in Albany, Rensselaer and Schenectady counties focusing on supporting relatives who are raising children (typically grandparents raising grandchildren). This program does not offer formal respite services but does offer a strong intergenerational component which assists youth and their caregivers with the adjustments and successful integration into their new family structure as well as providing the caregivers with supports to establish long term family stability.
