Major Energy Assistance Grant to Provide Relief through Harsh Winter

National Grid Foundation Meets Needs of Capital Region Residents with Major Energy Assistance Grant
Foundation to present a record $125,000 to Catholic Charities’ Emergency Energy Assistance Fund

ALBANY, NYJanuary 9, 2020: As temperatures drop, more and more residents in the Greater Capital Region struggle to make ends meet. High heating bills can push a stretched budget over the brink in the cold weather months, and that can quickly be made worse by an unexpected cold snap. Catholic Charities is out there every day trying to assist with all types of hardships. Thanks to this annual grant from the National Grid Foundation, the Emergency Energy Assistance Fund (EEAF) helps local residents in need pay their energy bills, and this grant will help even more Greater Capital Region families get through the bitter winter.

On Thursday, the National Grid Foundation will present a record $125,000 grant to Catholic Charities’ Emergency Energy Assistance Fund (EEAF) to help meet requests for emergency assistance during the winter-spring months.  Individuals who received assistance in the past will be on hand to discuss the impact the grant has made on their lives. National Grid Foundation’s fuel-neutral grant support will help an estimated 550+ households in 14 upstate New York counties, including the Greater Capital Region and outlying rural counties.

Catholic Charities is hosting a press conference to announce the grant and to challenge the greater community to help our neighbors who may be struggling this time of year.

This is the twelfth year the National Grid Foundation has provided a significant grant to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany to support families in need of energy assistance.
