When I think about the upcoming Christmas season, my thoughts are often with the families and people we serve. Many of our neighbors simply don't have a warm or even safe place to spend the holidays.
Take Keira, for example. With a history of conflict at home, Keira ran away from home at the age of 15 and was sleeping on a friend's couch.
When Keira’s high school guidance counselor learned about her situation, she connected Keira to Catholic Charities of Herkimer County’s Runaway and Homeless Youth Program. The program not only connected Keira to an adult she could trust, but helped her remain safe and allowed her to start planning for her future. We even kept her in mind over the holidays.
After years of hard work and pandemic struggles, Keira graduated high school with honors and is now majoring in psychology, so she can help teens like herself and provide them with someone they can count on. Through the support of community members like you, Keira received hope in her time of need.
Thank you for opening your hands and hearts this holiday season to bring hope to those who need it most.
