Our Lady of the Assumption Parish “Socks it to Them” with $1,000 Raised for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany
On Sunday, February 26th, 2023, parishioners at Our Lady of the Assumption Church generously gifted $1,000 from their Souper Bowl of Caring fundraiser to support the local food pantries and soup kitchens, like the Sister Maureen Joyce Center- run by Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany.
Additionally, a parish-wide sock collection was held, as well as a contest collection from elementary-aged kids through the church’s faith formation sessions. The parish-wide collection donated 241 pairs of socks, while the youth donated a total of 588 pairs.
With a grand total of over 800 pairs donated, the socks will serve neighbors in need through local Catholic Charities programs like Community Maternity Services, Blessed Sacrament, St. John’s/St. Ann’s Outreach Center, St. Charles Lwanga House, Joseph’s House, and St. Mary’s Outreach.
Sister Betsy Van Deusen, CEO of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany said, “We at Catholic Charities are so grateful for the creative and innovative ways that our parishes engage children, young people and the whole parish in service to help our neighbors! Thank you so much Our Lady of Assumption. We couldn't do it without you!”
Father Geoffrey Burke, of Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, expressed further gratitude, “Thank you to all who helped us meet the challenge and goal for Our Lady of the Assumption youth ministry.”
Efforts like these help to spread our mission and the spirit of giving to future generations. Thank you for helping to keep our neighbors in need well-fed with warm feet. These small necessities that we often take for granted truly mean the world to our community members.
