On the Road: Summer Lunch Program

Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie Counties entered its seventh year providing lunches to the Oneonta community through the Summer Food Service Program.

This year things have been different for our Summer Food Service Program as we had to change the program delivery to make sure we are following guidelines for safe program delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year the Summer Food Service Program is delivering meals for pick up to six sites throughout Oneonta, including two of the schools, three low income mobile home parks, and at the pavilion in the park where we usually have a congregate meal site.

Through March, April, May, and June the Oneonta City School District was distributing meals and our Summer Food Service Program started June 22nd, two weeks earlier than normal, so that there was no interruption in the food deliveries.

Typically, we serve approximately 2,000 lunches each summer and we are on track for serving the same amount this summer, if not more.

We have over 30 volunteers each year, including this year, who make this program possible by making all of the lunches, and then helping with the deliveries.

Thanks to the wonderful support of the community, our partners, our volunteers and our funders, we are able to serve children and adults from mid-June through late August.
