Last week marked the kick-off of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for 2018. The program is a collaboration with CA$H Coalition of the Greater Capital Region, Catholic Charities Tri-County Services and United Way of the Greater Capital Region. VITA offers free tax preparation services from IRS trained and certified volunteer preparers to any family or individual with a household income not exceeding $54,000.
Certified volunteers prepare tax returns and determine if clients are eligible for valuable tax credits. Volunteer advisors also work with taxpayers to help them develop financial literacy skills and long-term savings plans so they can meet their basic needs and achieve long-term financial stability.
Appointments run through April.
